TMFF Ranunculus Varieties

Ranunculus: A.K.A. the “rose of the spring!” These are some of the most popular flowers we grow (they’re contenders with peonies and dahlias), and for good reason.

Besides the fact they last a long time in a vase (sometimes even two weeks!), their beauty is mesmerizing.

We specialize in growing only specialty, unique, and rare ranunculus here at TMFF, and only grow the highest quality blooms. The teeny, beat-up, cruddy ones I’ve seen shipped to grocery stores from overseas just can’t compare to ours - they’re basically two different types of flowers.

Ranunculus are grown from “corms” - which is similar to a bulb. We plant the corms fall through early spring so they bloom in springtime. Before you ask (because I know you will), no, they are not easy to grow. It definitely takes an experienced gardener to succeed at growing these!

We grow 95% “Italian” varieties on our farm, which are specially bred and highly sought-after. You literally can’t get them anywhere else around here! We grow a handful of other varieties that have smaller flowers, and tend to have more more “singular” petals (they flowers resemble poppies).

Last but not least, we grow some “Butterfly Ranunculus,” which are completely different from the other ranunculus (it’s confusing because they look very different). This series has many flowers per stem, as opposed to regular ranunculus which only produce one flower per stem. The butterfly flowers have singular petals and grow with a thin layer of wax, which makes the flower shimmer and sparkle! They almost look painted, but it’s au naturale, baby!

Below is a sampling of the ranunculus varieties we grow on our farm. I’d love it if you let me know which ones are your favorite (mine is the “salmone”)!
