Hi, I’m Jenny, owner of Trademarks Flower Farm.
I help beginning farmers turn their hobby into a profitable business.
Are you Ready to live a life on your own terms, Do work that you’re excited about, and be proud of?
I’m here to help.
I hated working my regular 9-5 job.
Back in 2015, I worked a so-called “great” job with health benefits, a 401K, and a steady paycheck. My parents thought it was a safe career choice.
The problem was…
I dreaded going to work everyday.
My heart wasn’t in it. I felt a deep longing for more freedom in my life. I wanted to work on projects that both challenged me and brought me joy & satisfaction.
I wanted to feel proud of the work I did every day, and wanted to work on things that were meaningful to me and to others.
I wanted to work outside, with my hands. Most of all, I didn’t want anyone telling me what to do!
I wanted to live life on my own terms.
I decided that, no matter what, I would do work that was meaningful to me.
My parents were hobby-farmers, and I grew up helping them on the farm nearly every day as I grew up. I absolutely loved being outdoors and growing things - and to be honest, I didn’t know how to do anything else.
So I decided to start a flower farm.
I planted my very first dahlia tubers in the ground, and obsessed over every stem, The flowers were like magic: they healed a broken part of me that was longing for more fulfillment in my life. As the years went on, I slowly expanded my hobby garden. I went from growing 5 dahlias to over 2,000, and added many more varieties to the garden.
I obsessed over farming books and any business information I could get my hands on. I experimented with tons of different techniques and strategies. I learned essential skills needed to succeed in a notoriously difficult industry.
My friends and family warned me to keep it as a hobby. That farming was “too risky” and too difficult to make a living at. It took me years to figure out that the risk was completely worth it. I am so glad that I ignored the nay-sayers and followed my own path.
I now run my own successful flower farm, full time, and am happier than I have ever been before.
And no, entrepreneurship is not always butterflies and rainbows (in fact, it rarely is). But now, I am fully in charge of my time and my life. I get to be 100% in control of my own time and how I spend it. I get to decide how much or how little I want to work, or how much money I want to make. I am my own boss.
And I am happier than I’ve ever been before.
It hasn’t been easy, but it was been worth it. The journey has been long, hard and often hugely isolating. But the freedom that comes from designing my own life is PRICELESS.
While growing my farm, I always wished for a community of fellow farmers I could bounce ideas off of, could learn from, and get support from. I also longed for a resource that could teach me about farming business as a whole. I found great growing resources, and pieces of completely separate business information, but I found nothing that brought these two essential topics together.
It was mind-boggling, because blending both growing and business skills together is ESSENTIAL to get a profitablE farm business off the ground.
Everywhere I looked there were people talking about growing yet another new variety of dahlia, or trialing weird (but beautiful) things like toffee-colored roses…but no one was talking about making enough money to survive, financials, profitability, or business planning.
I wanted a concrete plan with actionable steps to get me from point A (job I hated) to point B (a thriving flower business and life I loved). I set out to find a way to make this happen, and succeeded at it. Now I want to share everything I’ve learned with others because I KNOW how much of a struggle it can be to get a farm business off the ground.
Which is why I decided to start hosting workshops on my farm: to give you the skills you need to grow your hobby to a profitable business, to find friendships within a community of like-minded people, and to find the courage to live life on your own terms.
